Try a Trade Day Albury Wodonga 2026
Try a Trade Day is the result of collaboration between the Albury Wodonga Careers Advisors Association, Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP), TAFE NSW, Wodonga TAFE, and industry representatives. The event runs on Friday 27 March at TAFE NSW, between 9.45am - 1.30pm.
Try a Trade Day aims to bring ‘a hands on’ approach to informing secondary school students about the many diverse career opportunities available in construction trades. The forum is aimed at Year 10 students interested in a career in this industry. Approximately 150 students are invited to attend from various secondary schools located in the Albury Wodonga area. Places in sessions are limited so please get in early to secure your spot.

Building
The construction industry is one of Australia’s largest industries. It covers planning and building everything from homes to hospitals and office blocks, to roads and bridges and infrastructure for renewable energy. Sometimes it involves demolition and earthworks.
Careers in field: Carpenter, builder, foreman, site supervisor.
Training options: Certificate III in Carpentry, Certificate IV in Building and Construction. Certificate II Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship, Certificate IV Residential Drafting and Advanced Diploma Building Design (Architectural).

Plumbing
Plumbers install, maintain and repair pipes, drains, guttering and metal roofing, mechanical services and related equipment for water supply, gas, drainage, sewerage, heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
Careers in this field: General Plumber, Roof Plumber, Mechanical Plumber, Plumbing Inspector.
Training options: Certificate II/III in Plumbing, Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services. Variations in Drainage, Fire Protection, Gas Fitting and Roof Plumbing.

Electrical
Electricians have the specific expertise required to install and repair electrotechnology systems. They design, assemble, install, test, commission, diagnose, maintain and repair electrical networks, systems, circuits, equipment, components, appliances and facilities. They are also responsible for renewable energies such as solar, wind, and storage.
Careers in field: Electrician and Electrical fitter who can then specialise in instrumentation, renewable energy, automation, power transmission.
Training options: Certificate II in Electrotechnology, Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, Certificate IV in Renewable Energy.

Motor Mechanics repair, maintain and test motor vehicle and other internal combustion engines and related mechanical components.
Careers in this field: Motor Mechanic, Vehicle Parts Interpreter, Motor Vehicle Parts and Accessories Fitter.
